Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play Review
The Good
- Fine tune control scheme comes very close to replicating a real-life golf swing
- Wii-exclusive Golf Party minigames are fun with friends
- Single-player depth is tremendous in PGA Tour career mode.
The Bad
- Putting is awkward and unrealistic
- Visuals don’t quite sell the lush, green golf courses.
Ignore the kid-friendly look of the box and the goofy All-Play tagline that mar the Nintendo Wii edition of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09. Yes, this looks like the preteen version of the EA Sports golf game, but it packs a real punch when it comes to faithfully re-creating an afternoon on the links. Workable controls that almost perfectly mimic real golf swings and a suite of great Wii-only party games make this the best version of Tiger Woods released this year. Developer Tiburon has nailed this one straight down the fairway, putting together a game geared to both serious golfers looking to take some realistic cuts and dabbling duffers up for hacking around with the wife and kids.
The Good
- Livens up the original game with more modern visuals

- Insane action with thousands of enemies constantly assaulting you
- Outstanding enemy menagerie of unique freaks
- Fantastic co-op option that lets up to 16 players battle together.
The Bad
- Buggy to the point of being unplayable on some systems even after the first patch
- Not enough enhancements over the original game, making it seem kind of unnecessary
- Uses the same audio effects samples as the original game and its sequel.
If you were putting together a list of the PC first-person shooters that most deserve to be remade, chances are pretty good that Serious Sam: The First Encounter would not make the cut. And this is not an insult. The original 2001 Croteam game has aged so well that it doesn’t really need this HD remake because its run-and-gun action and ludicrous menagerie of monsters are just as much of a blast to experience today as it was nine years ago. Nothing noteworthy has been added to the game, aside from some improved visuals, frivolous bonuses like achievements, and a depressing number of showstopping bugs. If you already have the original game, there aren’t any compelling reasons here to make you want to go back for more. If you don’t have the original game, the aforementioned bugs make it a safer if less desirable option than this HD
EA Goes to War with All New Medal of Honor
Dec 02, 2009
Recently Electronic Arts announced that Medal of Honor is returning to the front lines, this time in today’s war. For the first time in the franchise’s 10-year history, Medal of Honor, a video war game, is leaving the WWII theatre and putting players in war-torn Afghanistan.
– “New Super Mario Bros.” an update of the classic game (this time, for the Wii) allows you to play as Mario, Luigi and Toad. Like Toad’s not going to steal the Princess away from Mario. It’s “Mario 2″ all over again. Lots of fun for everyone!
New Video Games
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″ continues the story from its previous adventures, taking the franchise’s beloved gameplay to believable battlefield scenarios all over the world. The third installment is reportedly going to get even more realistic.
The real appeal of the original “Wii Fit” — the thing that made it unique — was found in the Aerobics and Balance Games sections, where the game promised to distract and entertain even as it provided a full-body workout. For a generation that grew up controlling on-screen characters with their thumbs, this new mixture of gaming and exercise had the potential to be a heck of lot more interesting than jogging on a treadmill for an hour.
Wii Fit Plus combines fun and fitness into one product. It can change how you exercise, how you balance, and even how you move. Expanding upon the original Wii Fit software, Wii Fit Plus is packed with every feature from Wii Fit—plus new exercises and tools to personalize your exercise routine. You can easily transfer your profile on the original Wii Fit to Wii Fit Plus.
Nintendo cuts price of Wii console to $199.
Late Wednesday, Nintendo /quotes/comstock/11i!ntdoy (NTDO.Y 33.00, +0.84,
+2.61%) /quotes/comstock/!7974 (JP:7974 23,990, +730.00, +3.14%) issued a statement announcing the reduction, which had been widely expected across the gaming industry after competitors Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp. scaled back the prices of their own consoles earlier this year.
It is the first time the Wii has seen a price reduction since its initial launch on the market in late 2006 — the longest a game console has ever gone at its initial price.
“We expect the price cut, coupled with the release of several key first-party titles, to increase the demand for the console, helping to provide the console with some momentum going into the holiday season,” Edward Williams of BMO Capital Markets wrote in a note to clients Thursday.
The Wii has been the most popular of the latest generation of gaming consoles, outselling the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 since its launch. More than 50 million units have been sold to date globally, according to Nintendo.
